Updated Standard Now Open for Public Review & Comment
Help shape the future of portable light standards.
Revisions to the ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 Standard are now available for public review and public comment. Updates include requirements for short-duration elevated brightness features, integrated dust testing, and updated performance markings. The public comment deadline is October 13, 2025. UL/PLATO Certification Program
UL, a leading global science safety company, and the Portable Lights American Trade Organization (PLATO),the largest internationally recognized consortium of global manufacturers in the portable lighting industry, have partnered on an industry-first program aimed at helping validate the accuracy of performance claims made by manufacturers of flashlights, headlamps, area lights, bike lights and spotlights.
Industry Oversight
Members enjoy access to and input into the portable lighting industry's ANSI/PLATO FL 1- 2019 Standard. Members also gain a partner regarding false product specifications or performance claims.
